Clearing an AR-15 1) Point rifle in safe direction. 2) Remove magazine from rifle .
3) Rotate selector to 'Safe' (Note: you will not be able to do this if the rifle is not cocked)
4) Lock the bolt open by: a) Pull the charging handle rearward. b) Press the bottom of the bolt catch. c) Allow the bolt to move forward until it engages the bolt catch. d) Return the charging handle to the forward position. e) Ensure the selector is set on 'Safe' Below: Shown at step '4b' - charging handle to rear, bottom of bolt catch is being pressed.
5) Inspect the chamber and upper receiver for brass or ammo. Remove brass/ammo if found.
6) Press the upper portion of the bolt catch, allowing the bolt to go forward.
7) Pull the trigger to release the pressure on the hammer spring.
